When your wig feels heavier, looks duller, or becomes harder to style, it may be time for a wash. Your routine should suit the piece and how you wear it.

Prepare without pulling
Remove loose tangles with the tool and technique appropriate for your texture. Work from the ends upward while supporting the hair above the section. For curls, ask for a detangling method that preserves the pattern rather than brushing the hair repeatedly while dry.
Support the cap securely without stretching it. Do not push pins through lace, the silk top, or the crown.
Keep the hair aligned
Use cool to lukewarm water and a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser suitable for the piece. Let water travel along the hair toward the ends. Smooth the cleanser through gently; avoid rubbing in circles, piling the hair up, or scrubbing the base.
Rinse thoroughly with the strands aligned. If makeup or product remains on delicate lace, ask which cleaning method is appropriate before rubbing or using a remover.
Condition the hair, not the knots
Apply suitable conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends, keeping it away from the roots, knots, and cap. Follow the product's directions and rinse thoroughly. More conditioner is not always better; residue can leave the hair heavy.
Dry without stretching the cap
Blot gently with a towel. Do not twist or wring. Allow the cap to dry fully on suitable support without stretching it, away from direct sun or a heat source.
If blow-drying is recommended for your texture, use the heat and handling guidance supplied for your piece. Do not use a flat iron or curling iron on damp hair.
Let wear guide the next wash
Daily wear, exercise, climate, and product use change how quickly cleansing is needed. A fixed date or number of wears is a starting discussion, not a rule for every customer.
